The best way to describe our original music is a blend of classic and modern rock with heavy riffs and melodies. Think the intensity of Chevelle, the melodic power of Alter Bridge, the grit of Audioslave, and the anthemic punch of Three Days Grace — all wired together into something unmistakably our own.”

The Story So Far

Dreadful Day

Formed in 2021, the band began when three lifelong friends from Ozark, Arkansas—Ryan Thompson, Lawson Mayner, and Landen Murphy—decided to turn years of playing together into something bigger. In 2025, guitarist Dustin Cano joined them, completing the band’s signature sound. Rooted in classic rock, blues, and just enough metal to keep things dangerous, they carved out a sound that’s at once recognizable and distinctly their own.

"We were raised on the giants—Rush, Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix—and you can hear those influences in every live show. What we play feels both old‑school and new, something for anyone who loves real, unapologetic rock and roll."

Dreadful Day has released two original tracks and is currently in the studio recording their debut album. Their latest single, “Rockin’ With You,” released in August 2025, is available on all major streaming platforms.

Known for their tight musicianship and dynamic live presence, Dreadful Day is quickly becoming a regional staple. Their sets mix hard‑driving originals with rock covers. They are performing throughout Oklahoma and Arkansas with a full slate of shows in 2026.

Lawson Mayner

BAss Guitar, Vocals

Lawson Mayner adds depth to the band's sound on bass guitar. In 2018, Lawson took up bass guitar first, then a 6-string - and never looked back. Influenced by bands like Audioslave and Avenged Sevenfold, he brings a punchy, melodic edge to the low end. Lawson not only holds down the bass but also steps up on vocals, layering in harmonies and back-up vocals. His favorite song to play live is “All My Life" by the Foo Fighters. Away from the stage, Lawson can usually be found out in the woods, hunting or camping and resetting before the next show.

Ryan Thompson

Drums, Lead Vocals

Ryan’s been swinging sticks since he was big enough to climb on his dad’s drum kit. He stepped up to the mic in 2021 and brought a whole new punch to the band’s sound. Singing while drumming came naturally for Ryan and it has become a signature part of the band's presence. Shaping his love of playing drums and songwriting are the influences of the late, Neil Peart, (RUSH). Offstage, Ryan plays drums in his church worship band, and the Jazz Ensemble at the University of Arkansas, where he is a full time student.

Landen Murphy

Lead Guitar, Vocals

Landen Murphy captivates crowds with his blistering solos and riffs. His guitar roots trace back to learning the craft from his grandfather. Influenced by legends like Zakk Wylde, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Dimebag Darrell, his style hits that sweet spot between soulful bends and full‑throttle shreds. Landen’s also been known to pull out a harmonica and drop a bluesy riff straight out of a ’70s rock record. His favorite song to perform live is “Stillborn” by Black Label Society. When he’s not playing guitar, he’s usually turning a wrench under the hood of a vehicle, riding ATV's or at his favorite fishing hole.

Dustin Cano

Rhythm Guitar, Drums, Vocals

Dustin Cano lays down the gritty harmonies and solid rhythm that keeps our music hitting hard. Dustin didn’t know much about playing guitar until watching Led Zeppelin live lit a fire in him. By age 13 he had his first acoustic guitar. In high school he picked up drums, bass, and piano. His sound pulls from the likes of Avenged Sevenfold, Red Hot Chili Peppers, 311, Incubus, and Tool. Onstage, his favorite jam is “Aerials” by System of a Down. Offstage, you’ll find him golfing, fishing, gaming, on the basketball court or playing soccer.
